Ah Xian

I was reading about Ah Xian in a magazine and made some sketches in my sketchbook.

For those who are new to his work, I'll give a brief intro without trying to be to overly simplistic. Ah Xian is a Chinese-born artist who migrated to Australia. When you first see his work, the most striking aspect is the medium - he creates busts and figures from porcelain, lacquer or cloisonné. His work goes beyond representation into explorations of one's roots and what it means to be Chinese in the world today (which in turn, carries political overtones about China’s attitude to free speech).

My impressions about him . . . Wow! What he does is amazing; my drawings don't do him any justice.
