Here are some close-ups I took of Willem de Kooning's paintings. I'm sure de Kooning fans out there will be able to identify some of these paintings, such as from his Woman series and Excavation.
It's also interesting to view his layering and sheer handling of paint, as well as the different velocities frozen in the paint. We can see him scratching, rubbing away, adding on top, glazing... and of course, his famous newspaper transfers, which were a happy accident.
I always find it fascinating to zoom in and view an artist's "handwriting". I hope you do too... Enjoy!
